  Telegrass was established by Amos Dov Silver after serving several jail stints for small drug trafficking. The platform's title is taken from the merging of the expressions Telegram and grass. After his freedom from prison, Silver emigrated to the United States where he started a Facebook page for marijuana commerce. The page permitted marijuana dealers to employ his Facebook wall under a false name to promote their wares. They interacted with patrons by tagging his profile and even uploaded photos of the material provided for sale. On the Facebook page, about 2 kilograms of weed were sold each day while Silver did not take part in the commerce or collect compensation for it. With the expansion of the platform to about 30 cannabis vendors on the page, Silver decided in March 2017 to move the commerce to the Telegram app known as Telegrass.
